A rectangle has a length of 25 cm and a width of 20 cm.

A square has the same perimeter as this rectangle.

What is the area of this square in square centimetres?  (2 marks)

\(\text{Perimeter of rectangle}\) \(=(2\times 25)+(2\times 20)\)
  \(=90\ \text{cm}\)

 

\(\therefore\ \text{Side length of square}\) \(=\dfrac{90}{4}\)
  \(=22.5\ \text{cm}\)

 

\(\therefore\ \text{Area of square}\) \(=\text{(side)}^2\)
  \(=22.5^2\)
  \(=506.25\ \text{cm}^2\)
