A circular pool is located in a square lawn, as shown below.
 

The sides of the square lawn are 10 m in length.

The pool has a radius of 3 m.

The area of the lawn surrounding the pool, in square metres, is closest to

  \(=10^2\)
  \(=100\ \text{m}^2\)

   

\(\text{Area of pool}\) \(=\pi r^2\)

  \(= 28.27\dots\ \text{m}^2\)

 

\(\therefore\ \text{Area of lawn}\) \(=100-28.27\dots\)
  \(=71.72\dots\ \text{m}^2\)
