Gary is painting his house over 3 days.

    • He paints \(\dfrac{1}{3}\) of the house on the first day.
    • He paints \(\dfrac{5}{12}\) of the house on the second day.

In order to finish, what percentage of the house does Gary need to paint on the third day?  (2 marks)

\(\text{Fraction painted}\) \(=\dfrac{1}{3}+\dfrac{5}{12}=\dfrac{4 + 5}{12}\)
  \(=\dfrac{9}{12}=\dfrac{3}{4}=75\%\)
