Overview

  • Your NAPLAN SMART data can be integrated into your worksheets.  The four steps below should take less than 10 minutes, and only have to be performed once.
  • We integrate aggregated school data from past NAPLAN results that are then matched via the Australian syllabus area to questions that you can use on your worksheets to precisely target areas where your school has underperformed in the past.
  • No individual student data is retrieved, used, or accessed in any way.
  • SmarterMaths never needs nor has access to your DoE / SMART portal username nor password.
  • Further details on our data privacy policy can be found here: http://www.smartermaths.com.au/privacy-policy/

Summary of the steps (< 10 minutes total time):

  1. Step 1 adds an extension temporarily to your browser that allows you to run the data retrieval script.
  2. Step 2 installs the data retrieval script.
  3. Step 3 involves you logging into your DoE / SMART portal, and then after you're logged in, the script can be initiated to retrieve the aggregated data and send it to a secure SmarterMaths location.
  4. Step 4 removes the temporary extension returning your browser to the way it was before this process started (and ensuring you don't unnecessarily perform the data retrieval process again.)

STEP 1:  Temporarily install the browser extension called "tampermonkey"

  1. Please use the latest Google Chrome browser, or latest Microsoft Edge browser.
    • Using Chrome you can check your version and whether or not it's up to date by navigating to "About" from your menu, or by typing "chrome://help/" in your URL bar.
  2. In your browser, go to https://tampermonkey.net/ and click on download.
    • If you're using Google Chrome, please choose the "beta" download.
    • If you're using Microsoft Edge there is only one option to install so please choose that.
  3. Your browser may install the file directly, or you may have to double click on it in your "downloads" or other folder depending upon how you have your browser configured.  Installation should only take a few seconds, and once complete you should be presented with a page in your browser that looks like this:

STEP 2:  Install the SmarterMaths SMART data integration script

  1. Click (or paste into your browser, the following link)
    • You should see the following in your browser at this point, and can click install.  If you don't see this, then please repeat step 1 to ensure that the "Tampermonkey" extension is correctly installed.
    • Upon clicking the Install button, the screen may be blank.  This step is now complete and you can close the blank browser tab as you prefer.

STEP 3:  Install and run the SmarterMaths SMART data integration script

  1. Login to your SMART system (https://sso.det.nsw.edu.au/sso/UI/Login) as you normally would, and after you've chosen the SMART application, then specified your school (leave the year and "NAPLAN" chosen), and clicked "Agree", on the following screen you should see the following at the top of your screen:
    • Click the "Begin" button and follow the prompts
    • You've completed the process when you see the last prompt, and can click the "Finish" button:

STEP 4:  Delete the SmarterMaths SMART data integration script

  1. Click on the "Tampermonkey" extension icon in your browser bar (it looks like a black or red square with rounded corners, and two grey circles at the bottom of the square):
  2. Choose "Dashboard". You should see the SmarterMaths script listed, and click on the right-most icon to delete the SmarterMaths script so it won't show on your SMART portal in the future. [You can also remove the tampermonkey extension itself if you'd like, although this is not required.]:

Great!  You're now finished.  We will commence integrating your SMART data into SmarterMaths, and we'll email you (normally within 72 hours) when it's complete and your SMART data will then be available on your worksheets for all teachers at your school.

NAPLAN Past Results Integration (NSW DOE / Scout Portal)

Overview

  • Your past NAPLAN results data can be integrated into your worksheets.  The steps below should take about 5 minutes and only have to be performed once.
  • We analyse a school's aggregated NAPLAN results data using our unique algorithm to identify weaknesses of past cohorts. Our algorithm then chooses specific questions from our database that precisely target areas where your school has underperformed in the past.
  • No individual student data is retrieved, used, or accessed in any way.
  • SmarterMaths never needs nor has access to your DoE portal username or password.

Summary of the steps (~ 5 minutes total time)

  1. Login to your DOE SSO account at https://sso.det.nsw.edu.au/sso/UI/Login) and choose the "NAPLAN (DoE)" app (Scout system) to export your aggregated NAPLAN past results in "csv" (Comma Separated Value) format.

  2. Email that file (include your school name in the filename) to support@smartermaths.com.au

The data is only used for integration into your SmarterMaths products, and is never made available to 3rd parties.  Further details on our data privacy policy can be found here: http://www.smartermaths.com.au/privacy-policy/

  3. SmarterMaths will integrate your NAPLAN results into your worksheets, usually within 72 hours. You will receive an email when the integration is complete, and this feature will be available to all teachers at your school.

How to reset your password detailed instructions

These instructions will explain how you can change your password either from the welcome email or later, at any time you'd like from the login page!

1. Changing your password from the welcome email

To change your password from your welcome email the very first time, the link included in that email should take you to the page where you can type in a new password.  (Note that it pre-fills the password field with a long list of weird characters...it's just trying to suggest a strong password for you, but you can certainly type over it.)

The page you should see is something like this:

But if that's not what you're seeing, or you want to change your password any time in the future, then proceed to changing your password with the following instructions under "2. Changing your password (anytime you'd like)"

2. Changing your password (anytime you'd like)

At the login page, click on the "Lost your password?" links shown here at the bottom of the page:

Then it will ask you to type your username or email address...in this example I'm using an example username (mdonovan):

You should then see a spot for your new password (this image is the same as the one at the top of this email)

You can then type any password you like (or accept the crazy one the system is suggesting...but then you have to remember it!!!)

The you should see this screen telling you that your password has been reset, after which you can login with your new password:

*** If you're still having problems, just email us at support@smartermaths.com.au, and we'll reset it manually from our end, and send it to you in an email.

Zero-wait printing

The "View PDF" button is really just a convenience for having the SmarterMaths system generate a side-by-side landscape pdf.  This is done by our servers, and can take some time, however you can get the same functionality (on exactly the same page you would press the "View PDF" button) by instead using "File->Print" from your browser menu.

When you print or generate a pdf this way, there is nothing to download, and no waiting time!

Here's how to get the best results...

After selecting "File->Print", for Chrome (and this will vary a little for Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari), you will see the following page - make sure the "Headers and footers" checkbox is deselected (this just stops the date, url string and other unnecessary information from printing) and have the "Background graphics" checked as shown in the image immediately below, and then click "Print using system dialog ..."

PrintDialog1

Once you've clicked "Print using system dialog ..." you will see a dialog box similar to the one below (but it will vary depending upon if you're using Windows/Mac and the OS version.)

Your specific printer brand and model will likely be different, but that is of little consequence, and you would select "Pages per Sheet: 2" as you can see in the image below.  It is normally set to 1, but you must manually change it to 2 for the side by side printing.  With a Mac operating system, one would then either press "Print", to send it to the printer, or select the PDF dropdown that you can see at the bottom of the below image and save it as a PDF, but for some operating systems you have to "Print as PDF".  Either way, the important part is to ensure you select 2 pages per sheet, and that is something that can be done on both windows and mac.

Need more help?

If you can't follow these instructions with your specific setup, but really want this type of zero-wait printing, let us know (you can email us at support@smartermaths.com.au) and we'll put together the exact instructions for your specific setup - just let us know your operating system and version (e.g. Windows 7, or 8, etc.) and your browser and version (e.g. Internet Explorer 11.0, or Chrome version 42.0.2311.90, etc..)

Other Printing Hints

By the way, even with the "View as PDF" button, the server work will never take more than about 30 seconds to generate your pdf (downloading may take extra - see below for more on this).  And the message should look like it does in this image:

ViewAsPDF1

And then after some time, that will not normally be longer than about 30 seconds, the message should change from the spinning circle and "Your worksheet is being prepared, etc.." to a tick mark and say "Your browser will now download your worksheet."  Depending upon your internet connection speed, it could take some time to download, since the server generated files are quite large.
