Prove that the line between \((1,-1)\) and \((4,-3)\) is perpendicular to the line  \(3x-2y-4=0\)   (2 marks)

\(\text {Line 1 gradient:}\)

\(P_1 (1,-1), P_2(4,-3) \)

\(m_1=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=\dfrac{-3+1}{4-1}=-\dfrac{2}{3}\)
 

\(\text {Line 2 gradient:}\)

\(3x-2y-4=0\ \ \Rightarrow \ y= \dfrac{3}{2}x-2\ \ \Rightarrow m_2=\dfrac{3}{2}\)

\(m_1 \times m_2 = -\dfrac{2}{3} \times \dfrac{3}{2} = -1\)

\(\therefore\ \text{Lines are perpendicular.}\)
